Sure, I could get garbage from Ikea; but for an incremental amount $more, I could get something that's still going to look great in ten years. Back before I moved into a place, I went to Ikea, and I found it to be extremely disheartening. I found that most of the furniture was rubbish; and the furniture that wasn't rubbish was expensive enough that I would probably be better off going to a furniture store on St-Laurent instead. So I have a couple of bowls, a pillow, coat hangers and a couple of other small things from Ikea. Total lifetime Ikea expenditure: about $80. [And have couches from a store which is just down the street.]

My computer sits on an end table, and I sit on a sofa. It's, uh, not an ideal setup; but works well enough that I've been putting off getting a desk.)
